Storyline
In 1920s China, Songlian enters a wealthy household as the fourth wife, quickly finding herself ensnared in a brutal competition for her husband's favor. Each night, the choice of which wife receives his attention is signaled by the lighting of red lanterns, a tradition that breeds resentment.
